BORN: June 17, 1919 ~ Orange City, Iowa
PASSED AWAY: December 30, 2009 ~ Sheldon, Iowa
Marian June Haack, the daughter of James and Dena (Geurink) Den Hartog was born June 17, 1919 in Orange City, Iowa. She received her education at a country school southeast of Sheldon. On January 30, 1941 she was united in marriage to Clarence Haack in Sheldon. After their marriage the couple farmed one year near Ocheyedan, Iowa before moving to a farm west of Primghar. Marian and Clarence worked together farming the family farm for many years. They retired and moved into Primghar to make their home. Clarence preceded her in death on April 17, 1996 in Primghar. Marian remained in the family home in Primghar until moving to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in 2002. In August of 2006 she moved to the Sanford Health Center Senior Care. She passed away at Senior Care on Wednesday December 30, 2009 reaching the age of 90 years 6 months and 13 days.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church in Primghar and was active in the Reformed Church Women of the church. She and Clarence enjoyed traveling and spent winters at Alamo, Texas. She enjoyed playing games, embroidering and word puzzles. Family was important to Marian and she remembered family birthdays by sending a card.
Marian is survived by six children and their spouses; Wilma and Frank Vanden Berg of Sheldon, Ken and Thelma Haack of Harris, Carol and Rick Melin of Spokane, Washington, Elaine and Don Damstra of Boyden, Dave and Connie Haack of Granbury, Texas and Don and Vicki Haack of LeMars, 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren Kathy and Mike Faber, Mark, Laurie, Jacob, Sean and Grace Vanden Berg, Kurt Vanden Berg, Brian, Rachel and Damon Vanden Berg, Diane, Andy, Leah and Kyle Van Wettering, Doug, Julie, Sarah and Lucas Haack, Kevin, Becca, Lara and Breanna Haack, Terry Haack, Rob Haack, Steve and Ali Melin, Dan, Tricia, Abby, Ella, Eli and baby(arriving in April) Melin, Debbie Melin, Darin and Kristin Damstra, Denise, Bob, Lyric, Lincoln, Lawson, and Lilia Morris and Samantha Lowry, Deanne, Shannon and baby(arriving in March) Althoff, Jeremy Haack, Jonathon Haack, Becky, Dustin, Hayden and Kailyn Altmiller, Susie Haack and Adam Haack; three sisters Ruth Ten Clay and Edna Dykstra of Sheldon and Arlene and husband Jim Ver Mulm of Sanborn; three brothers and their wives Robert and Birdie Den Hartog, Elmer and Joyce Den Hartog and Gene and Henrietta Den Hartog all of Sheldon; two sisters-in-law Alice Den Hartog of Sheldon and Pearl Haack of Hospers; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Willard Den Hartog, sister Florence and her husband Gerritt Dykstra, two brothers-in-law Charles Ten Clay and Maynard Dykstra.
