Storm Lake, Iowa - Helen Monson, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa died December 30, 2009 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Storm Lake. Visitation was Saturday, January 2, 2010 from 12:30 -2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen LaVonne Van De Berg was born to Ralph and Carrie (Ganzevoort) Van De Berg on December 20, 1922 in Archer, Iowa. She was baptized as an infant at First Reformed Church in Hospers, Iowa. She accepted the Lord as her Savior as a child at the knee of her mother.
On February 15, 1943 Helen was united in marriage to Clifford Monson in Dakota City, Nebraska.
She was a loving and devoted wife. They were blessed with four children: Roland, Lynn, Darwin and Carmen, ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In 1959, as an adult, Helen chose to follow in believer’s baptism at The First Baptist Church in Storm Lake.
Helen loved music and enjoyed singing. She always had a song in her heart and was often found humming a tune. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake along with other groups and organizations such as Christian Women’s Club and the Sweet Adelines. Helen loved to entertain family and friends in her home as hospitality was one of her God given gifts.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Clifford; her four children: Roland (Roberta) Monson of Wichita, Kansas; Lynn (Fred) Wolf of Ankeny, Iowa; Darwin (Lynn) Monson of Bristol, Florida; Carmen (Howard) Diischer of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Rolanda (David) Maness of El Dorado, Kansas; Robert (Kelli) Monson of Cheney, Kansas; Reginald Monson of Goddard, Kansas; Sarah (Jack) Taylor of Sioux City, Iowa; John Wolf of Sioux City, Iowa; Paul (Christine) Wolf of Sioux City, Iowa; Alison Monson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Tim (T’aryn) Monson of Orangeville, Pennsylvania; Darci Monson of North Liberty, Iowa; Callie (Andrew) Wobbema of Storm Lake, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Amanda, Jay, Josh, Jon, Jared, Justin, Jesse, and Amy Maness; Riley and Tucker Monson; Emily Monson; Jacob and Skylar Taylor; Chelsea Wolf; Alexis, Whitney and Parker Wolf; Cayden Howell; Ryder Monson; and Helen Wobbema; her great great-grandchild: Cambria Taylor; her brother: Harold (Lois) Van De Berg of Sibley, Iowa; her two sisters: Harriet (Ted) Van Zandbergen of Lincoln, Nebraska; LaVonne (John) Van Surksum of Sheldon, Iowa; her sister-in-law: Elizabeth Van De Berg of Phoenix, Arizona; extended family and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Carrie Van De Berg; her brothers, Harold Ceril Van De Berg and Kenneth Van De Berg; her two sisters, Magdalene VanBerkum and Angeline Zwagerman.
