Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Ronald David Smith, 54, of Hawarden, died suddenly on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Pastor Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Ronald David Smith was born March 10, 1955 in Madison, South Dakota, the son of Donald and Edith (Bennett) Smith. He grew up between Madison and Sioux Falls. Ronald has lived in Hawarden the past ten years. He married Mary Statema October 23, 1991 in Hawarden. He enjoyed collecting semis and wolves. He liked to fish, camp, making camp fires and enjoyed his daily coffee.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; step son, Aaron John Statema of Hawarden; daughter, Brandie Joi Smith of Hawarden; brother, Robert Dean Smith and wife Diane of Hawarden; two sisters, Barbara Taylor and Renee Waltz both of Hawarden; and many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patty.
