Mrs. Sadie Hansen, age 88, of Alton, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, January 5, at 2:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Michael Hardeman and the Rev. Elizabeth Hardeman will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Sadie was born on December 15, 1921, in Rock Valley, the daughter of John and Agnes (Mulder) Van Zanten, who had immigrated to the United States from Holland. She graduated from the Alton Public High School and Northwestern Junior College in Orange City.
On June 5, 1956, she married Harold Hansen in Le Mars. A son, Joel John, was born on March 20, 1957. They lived in the Sioux County area most of their lives, where she was a successful and well-liked teacher in several schools.
In June of 2005, Mrs. Hansen became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility. She will be laid to rest in the same cemetery where her son, parents, and brothers await the resurrection.
She was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where she enjoyed fellowship with the congregation. She was a very dedicated Christian, who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her husband of 53 ½ years; a sister, Irene (Adrian) Ekdom, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two brothers, Casey Van Zanten, of Orange City and Tony Van Zanten, of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Jean Van Zanten and Wilma "Billy" Van Zanten; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
In addition to her son, who died on May 5, 2004, at the age of 47, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dick, John, and Henry Van Zanten, and a sister, Bertha Rexwinkel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alton Reformed Church.
