TEGROTENHUIS, BONNEMA, BOONE

RUSSELL B. TE GROTENHUIS
Mr. Russell Te Grotenhuis, age 92, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, December 28, at 2:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Monday, at 1:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the funeral home.
Russell Bonnema was born on November 3, 1917, in Orange City, the son of Gerrit and Rena (Bonnema) Te Grotenhuis. He was raised on a farm two miles west of Orange City, where he first attended the Christian school and later the public school.
On August 23, 1943, he married Dorothy Margaret Boone at the home of her parents, Arie and Hattie Boone, in Orange City. They farmed the land where he was born for 26 years. In 1970, they moved into Orange City, where he was a service technician at Orange Motors. More recently, they moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. In November, he joined his wife at the Long Term Care Facility.
Mr. Te Grotenhuis was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he sang in the Men's Chorus. This summer, he decided to read through the complete Bible again. With his family, he loved to sing hymns in harmony.
He was a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau and served on the board of directors of the Sioux County Museum. He was creative and made everything from toys to wishing wells. He enjoyed playing pool, cards, and "Name that Tune" at the Long Term Care Facility.
Survivors include his wife of more than 66 years; a daughter and her husband, Donna Faye and Audley Van Peursem, of Orange City; a son and his wife, Duane and Evelyn Te Grotenhuis, of San Marcos, Texas; five grandchildren, Gregory Scott Van Peursem, and his wife, Donna, Michelle Lyn Grady, Zachary Duane Te Grotenhuis, Amy Allison Te Grotenhuis, and Alexander Dieters Te Grotenhuis, four great-grandchildren, Emily, Connor, and Parker Van Peursem, and Tiahna Grady; and a brother and his wife, Eugene and Leola Te Grotenhuis, of Orange City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Kurt Douglas Van Peursem; and two brothers and their wives, Arthur and Kate Te Grotenhuis and Milo and Gert Te Grotenhuis.
Memorials may be directed to the church organ fund.
