Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church in Alton at 11 A.M., Monday, for the Rev. Norbert John Boes, 57, pastor of St. Mary parish of Alton, who died Thursday at Carroll following a long illness.

Bishop Frank H. Breteman was the chief celebrant at the mass of the Resurrection. Burial was at Breda following a 10:30 A.M., mass at St. Bernard Church.

The Rev. Boes was born January 27, 1914 at Wall Lake. He attended Trinity College at Sioux City, graduating in 1965. He studied theology at Kenrick Seminary at St. Louis, Mo., and was ordained to the priesthood May 25, 1939, at the Cathedral of the Epiphany, Sioux City.

He had served as pastor of St. Mary's since 1968 and prior to that had held pastorates at Salix and Pomeroy. He had previously served as assisatnt at
