Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Rose D. Morehead, 86, of Hawarden, went home to the Lord on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.Rose D. Morehead was born January 9, 1923 in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of Charlie and Catherine (Nerudda) Jurgenson. She attended Petry Country School. She married Robert Morehead on May 12, 1943. Together they farmed near McNally, Alcester, SD and Hawarden. They retired into Hawarden in 1973. Rose's life was around her family and kids. Later on she worked at Coilcraft for 17 years.
Rose was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in Bible Studies. She enjoyed cardinal collecting and was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Club.
She is survived by 3 children, Ardis and husband Curt Baugus of Hawarden, Audrey and husband Vernon Johnson of Alcester, South Dakota, and Roger Morehead of Rock Valley, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Brad and wife Christy Johnson and Deb and husband Stacy Moffatt; 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Evan Johnson and Hailey Moffatt; 5 step great-grandchildren, Jarrod and Mandy Slaught, Austin, Kylie and Tyler Moffatt; and special friend, Helene Wakeman.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Lawrence Jurgenson; and 2 sisters, Catherine Nordling and Laurine Ericson.
