Mrs. Queenie A. Gearhart, for many
years a resident of this city, passed
away suddenly at her home here
about 10:30 Tuesday morning. She
had been in ill health for a long time
but steadfastly refused to call a physician. She had been planning for some time to go back to her old home in Indiana to spend the remainder of
her days and recently disposed of her
home with that end in view. Monday
some of the neighbors called and noted
that she was in great distress and insisted
upon calling a physician. It
was then disclosed that her condition
was quite alarming and she was advised
that if she expected to ever make
the trip to Indiana she should do so immediately.
She busied herself most of
Monday packing and making preparations
for an early departure. Neighbors
were with her up to the time she
retired Monday night and left her
fairly comfortable and in good spirits.
The next morning when they called at
her home she was unable to get out of
bed and it was then discovered that
she was rapidly sinking and the end
came during the forenoon. Funeral
services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday
afternoon at the Associated
Church in charge of Rev. Wm. F.
Vance, and interment will be made in
Grace Hill cemetery.Queenie A. Saunders was born May
30, 1852, at Louisville, Ky., so had attained
the age of 70 years, 9 months
and 13 days. She was united in marriage with D. T. Gearhart June 23,
1884, and has ever since made her
home in Hawarden. Mr. Gearhart passed away
August 19, 1912. She is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Thomas Wills of Dallas, S.D.,
who had visited her only a few .days prior to her death. She also leaves one brother and two
sisters, Dr. J. M. Saunders of Birdseye,
Ind., Mrs. H. S. Baggerly of Newcastle,
Ind., and the address of the
other sister is unknown. The sympathy
of the community goes out to
the bereaved relatives.
