JOHANNES L. MIERAS FOUND DEAD AFTER SEARCH AT HAWARDEN

Johannes L. Mieras, 79, who had been a patient at the Panshka Nursing Home in Hawarden four days, was found dead about 2:30 Monday morning after a searching party had spent more than six hours looking for him.

Mr. Mieras was first missed from the home about 8 o'clock when the searching party of eight relatives, friends, and law enforcement officials was organized.

Officials theorized that Mr. Mieras, who was unacquainted with Hawarden, wandered away from the home early in the evening and was enroute back to the home when he collapsed. The body was found a short distance from the home in an area which had been carefully searched several times previously.

Charles Vande Ploeg, Sioux County coroner, said the death was due to a heart attack.

Mr. Mieras was born in The Netherlands, November 13, 1874. He came to America in 1891 at the age of 16, locating at Maurice.

He owned and operated the telephone exchange in Maurice for many years along with several other business enterprises.

The past five years he had lived at Tucson, Ariz., where his wife died October 16, 1954.

His survivors are many nieces and nephews. Those in this vicinity are Mrs. Tony Visser and Mrs. Paul Robertson of Hawarden, Mrs. Victor Taylor of Akron, Mrs. Herman Dykstra and Peter Mieras of Orange City, Lewis and Edward Mieras and Mrs. Mieras of Sioux City, and Mrs. Effie Mieras of Maurice.

He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Clara Mieras of LeMars.

Funeral services were held Thursday at the Frazier Funeral Home and at the Forst [sic] Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Burial was at Maurice.
