Locals Honored for a Century of Farming

Three Rock Valley farmers were honored at the Iowa State Fair for having “Century Farms.” Arthur Walter Klein, John E. Miller and Wesley Miller were awarded certificates and plaques on August 22.

[Followed by an explanation of the Century Farm program. To date, 7751 Century Farm awards have been presented, including 405 in 1984. Accompanied by photos of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Miller and Arthur Walter Klein being presented with their awards.]

From the Hawarden Independent, October 11, 1984, p. 10:

Three Local Farmers Honored For 100 Years of Farming

The 1984 awards ceremony was held at the Iowa State Fair on August 22, “honoring those families which have owned Iowa farmland for 100 years or more.” There are three families from Hawarden that were recognized. They are the Clarence Heuer family, since 1883; the Bernard Schlumbohm family, since 1883 and the Harold Gilbert Shoemaker family, since 1882.
