*Poster's Note: There was a roster of soldier dead in the May 28, 1942 Hull Index that listed Ira Smith, 1882-1887, Co. A., 2nd Wisconsin Infantry. When I searched the Wisconsin Roster of Civil War veterans, I could not find an Ira Smith in the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry but did find Ira H. Smith in Co. A, 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry. Also, there is an Iowa Cemetery record on ancestry.com that gives Mr. Smith's middle initial as H.
