Approximately in the early 1870's the Hendrik Addink family came from Holland to America and made their home in Chicago, Illinois for about eight years. In Chicago, Hendrik was employed in a packing house. Later the family came to Alton, Iowa and finally to Sioux Center where they homesteaded. They were living in the Sioux Center area in April of 1881 because their son Harmen (Herman) is recorded being baptized at the First Reformed Church where the family are members.
Hendrik "Henry" W. Addink born in 1834 died on January 11, 1902 at 68 years of age. His wife Gerritje Ketelary Addink born 1846 died November 28, 1892 at 46 years of age.
Their children were:
Gerdina "Dina" (Mrs. Evert Den Herder) was born May 1, 1869. They lived in the Hull, Iowa area.
Hendrik Jan "Henry" Addink was born January 18, 1875. He married Elizabeth Houtsma. His family was from the Sioux Center area.
Gerrit Jan Addink was born July 28, 1878. His wife's name was Cora and his family ended up in Vancouver, Washington.
Harmen "Herman" Addink was born April 17, 1881. He married Jane Van't Hul. They were from Sioux Center. Their story is given separately.
Hendrik William "Bill" Addink was born December 26, 1883 and died December 7, 1907.
Jan William "John" Addink was born May 20, 1886. He married Jennie "Jane" Lammers. They were from the Sioux Center area.
