VANDE BERG, Lammert and Dina BRUINS

Lammert Vande Berg was born Lammert Van den Berg September 22, 1857in Doornspijk, Gelderland, Netherlands. His parents were Beert Van den Berg and Aaltje Juffer. Dina Bruins was born Feb. 6, 1865 at Alto, Wisconsin. Her parents were Jan Willem Bruins and Geertje VanderBeck. Willem and Geertje Bruins came to the U.S. in 1847.

Lammert came to the U.S. with his parents in March 1866. The first few years of his life were spent in Alto, Wisconsin, where later he met and married Dina Bruins on July 3, 1883. Lammert and Dina came to Sioux County, Iowa, about 1886 and settled near Newkirk. Later they farmed 4 ½ miles east of Sioux Center. During this time and for the rest of their lives they were members of the First Reformed church where Lammert is noted as being on the consistory in the 1880s.

Approximately in 1913 they retired and moved to Sioux Center. Lammert died January 22, 1942 and Dina died on August 18, 1942 and both are buried in Sioux Center Cemetery. The following children were born to Lammert Vande Berg and Dina Bruins.
1. Bert Vande Berg, born Sept 24, 1883 at Alto WI. Bert married Dena Rexwinkel, born Jan 17, 1889 on Feb 5, 1908. Bert did May 28, 1958 and Dena died Feb 3, 1969. There were four children born to this marriage, namely, Dorothy, born July 13, 1909; Wilbert born May 31, 1913; Lester, born June 14, 1916; and Harold, born April 1, 1919.
2. William Vande Berg was born May 23, 1885 at Alto, Wisconsin. William married Gertrude Huitink, born June 24 1910. They had the following four children: Lawrence, born Nov 24, 1910; Henry born Nov 27, 1913; Dina born Oct 29, 1919 and Davey, Nov. 10, 1924.
3. Ella Vande Berg was born March 14, 1887 at Newkirk, IA and married Nick Vander Ploeg, born Sept 22, 1884 at Sioux Center, IA, on Feb 23, 1910. To this marriage the following children were born; Theodore, born Dec 20, 1914; Lawrence, born April 1, 1918; Donald born April 4, 1921; Elmer born July 9, 1925, and Theresa born Oct 3, 1927.
4. Henry Vande Berg was born Oct 14, 1889 at Newkirk, IA, and married Jessie Prins, born March 31, 1894, on Jan 22, 1914. They had two Children; Driscilla, born Aug 12, 1916, and Gerald, born Aug 25, 1919.
5. Gertie Vande Berg was born Dec 24, 1891 at Newkirk, IA, and married Andrew Van Beek in Sioux Center, IA on Dec 24, 1912. Andrew Van Beek was born Sept 16, 1888. They moved to Westfield ND. After their marriage and lived there all their life. Andrew died on Nov 21, 1968 and Gertie died April 3, 1988. The following children wre born: John, born Sept 28, 1913; Dorothy born Jan 19,1916; Lester, born May 11, 1919, and Raymond, born Jan 17, 1921.
6. Gerrit Vande Berg was born Dec 17, 1893 at Newkirk, IA. Gerrit married Jennie Vermeer, born Aug 29, 1892, on Jan 27, 1915. Gerrit died Jan 25, 1975 and Jennie died April 29, 1982, and their children were: Geraldine, born April 20, 1916; Priscilla born Nov 14, 1917; Louise born March 12, 1920; Gertrude born Jun 10, 1923; Jeanne born Sept 26, 1925; and Lowell born July 10, 1932.
7. Jennie Vande Berg born Sept 17, 1895. She was kicked by a horse and lived on day after the accident. She died Oct 20, 1898 and is buried in the Newkirk Cemetery.
8. Jennie Vande berg born Nov 29, 1898, Jennie married Martin Dykshorn, born Jan 19, 1896, on Feb 21, 1923. Martin died Sept 7, 1969, and Jennie died April 23, 1989. They had two daughters, Joyce, born April 25, 1924; and Lois born Aug 6, 1927.
9. Arthur Vande Berg was born April 7, 1904. Art Married Wilmina Vande Berg, born Sept 1, 1905, on Sept 1, 1934. Four children were born to this marriage. Namely, Duane born March 31, 1937, Paul, born Sept 11, 1938; Shirley born June 4, 1941, and Warren, born Sept 28, 1943. Wilmina died Jun 2, 1973, and Art died Nov 8, 1986.
