GOLDEN WEDDING
The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henrich Vander Hamm residing just east of Ireton--celebrated November eighteenth--is long to be remembered by the large number of relatives and guests present--some 116 in all. It is an honor seldom enjoyed and was all the more pleasurable because of its rarity. Rev. Nuoffer of St. John's church performed the anniversary ceremony and delivered an address. St. John's choir was present and sang several selections. Mr. and Mrs. Vander Hamm were decorated with bouquets of golden chrysanthemums and golden crowns and were the recipients of many congratulations bestowed from the assembled company. After the ceremony a bountiful dinner was served to all. The table fairly groaned with good things to eat--all products of Northwestern Iowa. The table and rooms were decorated in large yellow chrysanthemums and gilded ferns and green leaves and presented a beautiful sight.
It is thirty five years since the Vander Hamms first cast their lot in Sioux County and in the earlier part of that time shared all the adversities and hardships of pioneers. But by their frugal management and continued industry and strict honesty and fair dealing they have lived to see themselves prosper. Now as they are entering the evening of life they are content to sit by and allow their posterity to carry on the work they have mapped out.
Henrich Bernard Anton Vander Hamm was born May nineteenth 1832 at Astede in Oldenburg Hanover and was married to Miss Christina Julfs November eighteenth 1856. Mr. Vander Hamm was a tailor by profession and in 1857 they emigrated to America and made their home at Dixon Illinois until 1864 when they moved to Monticello Iowa and in 1871 to Sioux county. Their marriage was blessed with seven boys and one girl--the latter and one boy dying in infancy. Of the reminaing six -- August and John and Will and Henry and Louis all reside in and are prosperous farmers of Sioux county while the other brother is in the creamery business at Belmond Iowa. These sons with their wives and twentythree grandchildren were all present at the golden wedding.
The other guests present were the families of C. Heidbrink, Henry Ditmer, Henry Vlotho, Louis Hennrich, John Tieden, H. E. Onken, E. H. Eilts, John Ricklefs, Rev. Nuoffer, Henry Becker. Besides these families there were present Henry Kluter and wife, Fred Ditmer and wife, John Tonjes and wife, Fred Vlotho and wife.
