“If you want to live to be 90 and continue in good health, chop wood,” says John Boer, who was 92 years old last Fourth of July. The accompanying picture shows the nonagenarian in action.A carpenter by trade, Mr. Boer points with pride to many houses and stock barns as well as other buildings in Sioux Center, Ireton, Maurice, and Orange City, as well as on farms near these points, which have stood the wear of years, and are his handiwork.
Mr. Boer was born in Overeisel, Holland, and came to the United States in 1882, settling first at Alton, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death and he has three children who are: Mrs. Neal DePree, with whom he makes his home and who lives east of here; Mrs. Kate B. Still of Fontanelle, Iowa; and Attorney Benjamin Boer, who lives in Bay Village, Ohio.
Mr. Boer enjoys excellent health and does easy work about the farm each day.
