LEONARD HODAPP was born October 3. 1861 in Germany to Carl (Hodapp) and Katherine Fischer. He came to America at age 19 and returned to Germany nine years later. He married Stephania Burger in 1889. She was born December 25, 1861 also in Germany. They returned after their marriage to the U. S. Their Children were:
Sophia, born January 4, 1891, married Paul Entringer February 1915, and died November 16, 1918. she had two infants both of whom died.
Emma was born July 21, 1892 and is still living.
Ida Hodapp was born March 4, 1894 and died of diabetes in September 10, 1905. There was no insulin at that time.
Catherine Hodapp was born November 30, 1895 and died August 29, 1955. She married Peter Klein.
Edward Hodapp was born October 5, 1898 and died February 28, 1899.
Otto was born December 29, 1899 and died July 13, 1966, He was married to Charlotte Full February, 1921.
Frances Hodapp was born December 3, 1907 and married John Ahlers.

MICHAEL HODAPP was born in Kappelrodeck, Germany, on Septermber 28, 1866. He was the son of Melcheor and Catherine Zink Hodapp and he was the youngest of three sons (Barney and Leonard). After Melcheors’ death, Catherine married Anton Hodapp and they had four children (Sophia, Leo, Charles and Frances).
As a young boy, Mike came to the United States in 1883. He married Maria Bergen (born May 5, 1870) in Cherokee in 1891. She was the daughter of George and Martha Bergen. Maria’s sister, Stephanie, Married Leonard Hodapp. Mike and Maria farmed in the Sutherland area. There were seven children born to them.: William, 1892; Rose, 1892: Herman, 1895; Martha, 1896; John, 1898; Marie 1900; and Clara, 1902. Their mother died March 10, 1903 when Clara was a baby. A half sister, Frances (born February 14, 1881), came from Germany to help with the family. They bought a farm in O’Brien County in 1903 and lived these until moving to Granville. Mike died there November 11, 1936. “Aunt Frances” died June 15, 1965. The house was then sold to Wayne Delperdang, the Granville banker, the was moving here from Remsen.

Melshor Hodapp born 5 Jan 1838 Baden Wuerttemberg, or Kappelrodeck , Germany died 10 Jan 1869 Kappelrodeck Buhl, Baden Wuerttembuerg, Germany. His parents were Anton Hodapp 1800-1876 and Magdalena Schindler 1802-1855.

Katharina Zink born 15 Oct 1841 Baden Wurttemberg, Germany died 17 Mar 1913/1915 Granville, IA Her parents were Anton Zink and Elisabeth Geiser. Melchor Hodapp and Katharina Zink had the following children: Bernhard Hodapp 1860-1952, Leonard Hodapp 1861 – 1939, Wilhelm Hodapp 1864-1864 and Michael Hodapp 1866-1936. Leonard and Michael’s stories were in the St. Joseph’s church book.

2. Michael Hodapp born 28 Sep 1866 Kappelrodeck, Baden Gernay died 11 Nov 1936 at Granville, Sioux Co. IA . He was the son of Anton Melchor Hodapp and Katharina Zink. He married Maria Berger 1892 at Cherokee IA. Their children William George Hodapp born 12 July 1892 died October 9, 1963; Rose Hodapp born 24 Jul 1893 died 25 Jun 1963, Martha Anna Hodapp born 12 Aug 1896 died 7 Mar 1981, Martha Anna Hodapp born 12 Aug 1896 died 7 Mar 1981, John Michael Hodapp born 27 Dec 1898 died10 Jun 1962, Mary Magdalena ‘Lena’ Hodapp born 26 Oct 1899 died 29 Jan 1976 and Clara Catherine Hodapp born 28 Jun 1902 died 18 Sep 1983. Michael’s obit was not readily found in the newspaper archives.

LEONARD HODAPP CALLED BY DEATH - Leonard Hodapp, early Granville resident, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Klein on February 27, at the age of 77 years. Born at Baden, Germany on October 3, 1861, he came to the United States at the age of 18. He spent several years at Freeport, Illinois, then returning to Germany where he was married on February 15, 1890 to Stephana Burger and brought his wife to the Granville community. The greater part of his life he farmed near Granville. Surviving are three daughters and one son, namely Miss Emma of Pocahontas, Mrs. Peter Klein, Otto Hodapp and Mrs. John Ahlers, all of Granville; two brothers, Barney and Leo Hodapp of Sibley; two sisters, Miss Frances Hodapp of Olivia, Minnesota and Mrs. Sophia Hund of Baden, Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters Mrs. Sophia Entringer and Ida, and one son, Edward. Two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Church, Granville, on March 1 with interment in the church Cemetery. Reverend J.A. Gerleman was in charge of the services and pallbearers were Bert Schnurr, William Nilchel, George Schmidt, Joe Schumacher, Mike Perlot and Herman Ahlers. Many were present to pay tribute to the memory of this respected pioneer, who was ever a devoted husband and father and a kind neighbor.
Note on Leonard’s wife: Stephania Burger. From an ancestry.com report (by others) Her parents were George Burger and Martha Pfeifer 1843. Her husband was Leonard Hodapp 1861-1939, they were the parents of eight children.

Her parents were George Burger born 27 Apr 1843 Kappelrodeck Baden Germany and Martha Pfeifer born 22 Feb 1844 Kappelrodeck Baden Germany died 26 Jan 1928 Kappelrodeck, Baden, Germany. Her sister was Stephania Burger (Mrs. Leonard Hodapp) 1862-1926. .
