This story was taken from page 413 of the Ireton Centennial Book (1882-1982). Author unknown. The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes were added by Wilma J. Vande Berg.
Mr. Henry Johnson and Hattie Daniels, both of Reville, S.D. were united in marriage at Reville on May 29, 1907. Both Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were born in Germany and came to America when Henry was 12 years of age and Hattie was 7. Their parents settled in Reville, S.D.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Ireton, settling on a farm north of Ireton. They became the parents of 4 children: Mrs. Gladys Dimmick and Mrs. Lucille Brunsting both of Hawarden, Ed Johnson of Farnhamville, Ia. and Donald of Ireton, now deceased.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson continued to live on the farm near Ireton until they moved to town in Nov. 1942, across the street south of the water tower, the house now occupied by Mildred Johnson.
Both are deceased. They were members of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Henry D. Johnson was born 1877 Ostfriesland Germany and died 1962 Ireton IA. He was the son of Uhnke Redmers Onno Janssen Johnson 1848-1928 and Sophia Karels Meyer Johnson. He married Hattie Daniels.
Hattie Daniels was born 1877 Germany and died 1953 Ireton IA. Daughter of Harm Daniels 1856-1922 Titonka, Kossuth IA and Harmka Swyter 1855-1932 Titonka, Kossuth IA. They were the parents of six children.

Florence Elizabeth Johnson, daughter of William Barnum and Elena Carlson Barnum, was born June 2, 1914 at Sioux Falls, S.D. She passed away on March 27, 1992, at her home in Farnhamville, at the age of 77. Services were held March 30 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville. Mrs. Johnson moved to Hawarden where she attended school and graduated from the Hawarden High School. She graduated from Drake University, Des Moines. She taught school at Ireton. She was united in marriage with Ed Johnson on July 3, 1938 at Sioux City. They lived in Farnhamville where she taught school. She later taught at Cedar Valley School. She retired in 1976. When Mr. Johnson died in 1979, she remained in Farnhamville and did substitute teaching at Cedar Valley School. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Women, Helping Hand Circle, Farnhamville Women's Club and Farnhamville Senior Citizens. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Ed. She is survived by sons, Marvyn Johnson, Phoenix, Ariz., and William Johnson, Cheyenne, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; a brother, William Barnum, Hawarden; and other relatives and friends2. Donald H. Johnson, age 60, of Ireton passed away at a Sioux City Hospital on Oct. 10, 1972. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 2:00 P.M. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Arthur Anacker officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Mr. Johnson was born Mar. 31, 1912 in Sioux County near Ireton. He was united in marriage to Mildred Westergard Aug. 28, 1935.
He lived his entire life in the Ireton area. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served on the Church Board for many years. He also served on the Washington Township School Board. He is survived by his wife, three sons: Rodney of Rolling Meadows, Illinois; Kenneth and Gary of Des Plaines, Illinois; 4 grandchildren; one brother, Ed Johnson of Farnhamville, Iowa; 2 sisters, Mrs. Gladys Dimmick and Mrs. Lucille Brunsting both of Hawarden. Gladys Dimmick, 83, of Saginaw, Texas, formerly of Hawarden, died Friday [July 7] at her daughter's residence in Flandreau, S.D. Funeral service was Wednesday, at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements. Gladys Dimmick was born Jan. 12, 1917 at Ireton, to Henry and Hattie (Daniels) Johnson. She married Glenn Dimmick Dec. 14, 1939 at Ireton. They farmed southeast of Hawarden, until moving into Hawarden in 1953. Her husband was a truck driver for Truesdell Oil Company, later trucking on his own. He died on June 19, 1970.
Mrs. Dimmick moved to Texas in 1985. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Saginaw, the United Methodist Women, Senior Citizens and the Kitchen Band. She enjoyed quilting. Survivors include two sons, Jim of Orange City, and Raymond and wife Kay of Saginaw; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Larry Peters of Flandreau and Kathy and Ron Barnes of Hawarden; a sister, Lucille Brunsting of Hawarden; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. HAWARDEN, Iowa - Lucille Brunsting, 80, of Hawarden died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Mrs. Brunsting was born June 9, 1920, in Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Hattie (Daniels) Johnson. She married Fred Brunsting on Nov. 7, 1939, in Ireton. The couple farmed near Hawarden until her husband's death on July 11, 1967. She moved into Hawarden in 1968 and was employed as a nurses aide at Mape's Nursing Home. She entered Hillcrest Health Care Center in April 2000. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dennis and Kathy of Sioux City, and Doug and Diane of Ireton; three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Richard Weyen of Hawarden, Janet and Bill VerMulm of Hudson, S.D., and Linda and Jim Noonan of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Tracy Brunsting; two brothers, Don and Ed Johnson; and a sister, Gladys Dimmick. SERVICES TO BE HELD FRIDAY FOR HENRY O. JOHNSON
Funeral services for Henry O. Johnson, 85, who died Tuesday afternoon at the Hawarden Hospital, will be held at 2 P.M. Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Ireton. Reverend Paul Friedrich will officiate, and burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with the Satterlee Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Johnson was born in Germany on September 16, 1877 and came to Ireton at the age of 13 with his parents. He was married to Hattie Daniels on May 29, 1907.
Survivors include two sons, Edward of Farmhamville, Iowa and Donald of Ireton; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Dimmick and Mrs. Fred Brunsting of Hawarden; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.OBITUARY OF HATTIE JOHNSON

Final Services Held Monday for Mrs. Johnson, Ireton, la. Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Johnson, 65, who died Monday, April 13, at the Hawarden hospital, were held last Thursday afternoon in St. Paul's Lutheran church with Rev. Paul Friedrich officiating. The burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery under the direction of the Satterlee Funeral Home.
Hattie Daniels Johnson, daughter of Harm Daniels and Harmka Sweater, was born in Upleward, Germany, on Dec. 4, 1887. She was baptized in the days of her infancy. When she was about 7 years of age, she came to America with her parents and they settled at Grundy Center, Iowa. After a few years the family moved to Reville, S. D., and it was here that she married Henry Johnson on May 29, 1907.
Shortly after they were married Mr. Johnson and his young wife moved to Ireton, settling on a farm north of town. Four children were born to them. On April 14, 1911 Mrs. Johnson was confirmed and became a member of the Lutheran church. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson continued to live on the farm near Ireton until they moved to town in November, 1942. Mrs. Johnson seemed to be in good health and very active until about 6 weeks ago when she was confined to 'her bed. Her condition grew worse and about three weeks ago she was taken to the Hawarden hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Johnson; two sons, Ed O. Johnson of Lohrville, Iowa, and Donald of Ireton; two daughters, Airs. Glenn Dimmick and Mrs. Fred Brunsting of Hawarden; 11 grandchildren; five brothers, George Daniels of Britt, Iowa, Herman of Garner, Iowa, Martin of Des Moines, Albert of Reville, SD, and Claus of Clear Lake and four sisters, Mrs. Mar Klunder of Grundy Center, Iowa, Mrs. Ann Schroeder of Ruthven, Iowa, Mrs. Temi Riggles of Crystal Lake, Iowa, and Mrs. Sadie Ratchaffer of Britt. Three brothers, one sister and two grandsons preceded her in death.
