==========================
Alton Democrat issue of 7 Dec 1912, Ireton column.
Joe Irwin, who has been in failing health for several weeks and who was thought to be getting better, took worse last Thursday morning and declined rapidly and passed away the same afternoon. He was suffering from rupture and in the middle of October was taken to the Mosher hospital at LeMars, where he improved for a while and was able to be moved home the first part of November. Since that time, he has been up and down and no one thought him near the end and the announcement of his death came as a great shock to the community. Joe Irwin was one of the older residents of Ireton and has lived in this vicinity for a great many years. He lived on a farm just at the east edge of town and was looked upon as one of the more substantial citizens being a man of splendid moral character and Christian worth. He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons, also by three brothers and three sisters, being Wm. and Hugh Irwin of Ireton, and James Irwin of Hanover, Ill., and Mesdames Steele and Ferrand of Ireton and Mrs. Beck of Sioux City, all of whom were here to attend the funeral which was held from the United Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon. Rev. Jackson, the pastor of the church in charge, Rev. Masters assisted in the funeral service at the house and Rev. Creswell at the church. The body was laid to rest in Ireton cemetery. The floral offerings sent by friends and relatives were many and very beautiful.
