Holtdorf, Albert (Jr.) 1895-1969 & Wilhelmina ‘Zana’ Marienau Family

This story was taken from page 407 of the Ireton Centennial Book (1882-1982). The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society.

Albert Holtdorf. son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Holtdorf, Sr., was born Dec. 26, 1895, and died Jan. 2, 1969. His occupations were farming and trucking.

He was married on Feb. 26, 1920 to Wilhelmina (Zana) Marienau, daughter of Fred W. and Johanna (Haage) Marienau. She and her twin brother William were born May 9, 1891 and Zana died on Aug. 11, 1962.

Both Albert and Zana were lifelong members of the Lutheran Church.

Their children were:

1. John Wesley, born Mar. 13, 1922 and died Apr. 15, 1975. He was married to Lois Johnson of Hawarden and they were the parents of two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Leon Vanden Berg) and Kristi.

2. Ruth Holtdorf was born Feb. 1, 1934 and married Elmer Holtkamp of Hawarden in 1953. They have two children, Terri (Mrs. Clayton Fisher) and Rodd.

ALBERT HOLTDORF
Funeral services were held on January 6 at 1:30 p. m. at St. Paul Lutheran church, Ireton. for Albert Holtdorf, 73, retired farmer, who died January 2 of a heart attack.
Services were conducted by the Rev. A. Anacher. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Mr. Holtdorf was born December 26. 1895 at Edgerton Minn, and came with his parents to the Ireton area at an early age. He was married to Zana Marrinau December 26 1920 .She preceded him in death on August 11, 1962.
Survivors are a son, Wesley, Maurice; a daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Ruth) Holtkamp of Hawarden; two sisters, Mrs. Otis (Esther) Wandling,, Ireton, and Mrs. Ricliard (Myrtle) Leland of Milwaukee, Wise; three brothers, Clarence of Ireton, George of Holland, Mich, and Ben Sioux City and four grandchildren.

OBITUARY OF ZANA HOLTDORF
Mrs. Albert Holtdorf,71, of Ireton died at the Hawarden hospital on Saturday morning following a lingering illness.
Zana W. Marienau Holtdorf daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marienau was born at Ireton May 9, 1891. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended the public school and assisted her father in the grocery store.
She lived her entire life in Ireton except for a few years on the farm after her marriage. She married Albert Holtdorf February 26, 1920 at Ireton. They farmed in the Ireton vicinity until 1937 when they moved to Ireton. They were parents of one son Wesley and one daughter Ruth.
She is survived by her husband; her son, Wesley of Maurice; her daughter Ruth (Mrs. Elmer Holtkamp) of Hawarden; one brother Fred Marienau of Akron and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her late parents, her twin brother, William and her brothers Ben and John.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 at the Satterlee Funeral home and at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church. Rev Paul Friedrich officiated. Buial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
