Translated: Herman Hofmeyer born 22 Feb 1845, in Zutphen, NeTherlands., is Sunday 24 June. at 5 o'clock, died in his home in Newkirk, aged 89 years and 4 months. About three years ago he underwent surgery, but remained on his feet for a long time, until the defects of the old age got worse and he was forced to take more rest for about half a year.
On 26 March 1873 he was married in Holten, Ned. with Miss Dina Trinen, who now out lives him . The couple came from the Netherlands in Sioux County in 1882, and lived on farms near Alton, Orange City, and Hospers: the last 25 years in Newkirk, but not to rest because Mr. Hofmeyer was not so inclined. He was an elder in the Reformed congregation in Newkirk. Their marriage was consummated with 13 children, 11 of whom were still alive, Children - . Mrs. John Van Oort or Sheldon, Mrs. Dena Sneltjes, Gerrit of Hospers, John of Archer, Mrs. Martin Boersma or Hospers, Dick of Matlock, Mrs. Jake Boersma of Hospers, George of Sanborn, Will of Hospers, Mrs. G. Vander Schaaf of Hospers, Jake of Orange City, The daughter Mrs. Abe Brinkhuis died, being 34 years old, in 1918, and the daughter Nettie 14 years old, died in 1895 (1896). The widow and the children and also many others have suffered a very heavy loss due to the departure of Mr. Herman Hofmeyer. The funeral services are set at 1 o'clock at the death house and at half past 2 in the Reformed Church in Newkirk, under the direction of Rev. Z Roetman.In the De Volksvriend of July 5, 1934 there is an obituary announcement for Harm Hofmeyer signed by Mrs. H. Hofmeyer and children of Newkirk P. O. Hospers IA. The left words of the column are not visible in the binding so hard to transfer the Dutch to English for this article.

Mrs. Dena Hofmeyer of Hospers passed away last Thursday afternoon at the age of 99 years, 9 months and eleven days. She was the oldest known resident in Sioux County where she had made her home for the last [65?] years. She was the mother of 13 children and has 15 grandchildren, 68 great grand children and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the American Reformed church at Newkirk. Her grandson, Mr. Herman Hofmeyer of Primghar, attended the funeral and acted as one of the pallbearers.

Was Nearly 100 Years Old; Had 62 Great Grandchildren
Mrs, H. Hofmeyer, affectionately called " Grandma Hofmeyer " by her many relatives and friends, passed away to her reward on April 11, 1946, having reached the ripe old age of 99 years, 9 months and 8 days,Lammerdiena "Dena" Trinen Hofmeyer was born on July 18, 1846 in Holten, the Netherlands. She was united in marriage to Herman Hofmeyer on March 26, 1872 and he preceded her in death in 1935. They came to America in 1881. To this union were born thirteen children, ten of whom survive, namely: Hattie, Mrs. J. Van Oort of Sheldon; Dena, Mrs. Sneltjes; Gerrit, (Ella), Mrs. M. Boersma, (Josie) Mrs. M. Foreman, William, (Gertie) Mrs. G. Vande Schaaf, all of Hospers; John of Sanborn; George of Sibley and Jake of Orange City. Preceding her in death were: Nettie at the age of 14; (Minnie) Mrs. Abe Brinkhuis at the age of 34; and Dick Hofmeyer at the age of 56. She also leaves 35 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed church at Newkirk of which she was a faithful member for many years. Rev. Z. Roetman of Orange City, her former pastor and Rev. G. Docter of Hospers officiated and interment was made at the Newkirk cemetery.
