Richard (Dick) Gleysteen was born in 1881, and graduated from Northwestern Academy in 1897. He received a degree in medicine from Rush Medical School at Chicago in 1905, practiced one year in Sheldon, Iowa, and then moved to Alton, where he was a physician for 38 years.
