A few months after his marriage to Karen, Darwin enrolled in universal trade school in Omaha, NE where he graduated with a degree in vehicle mechanics.

Employment: After high school, he spent time living with aunts, uncles and friends, helping with farm chores. He then began installing water pipelines with his brother, Don. After finishing trade school in Omaha, Darwin was hired by Stan Olsen, who owned a garage in both Walnut, IA and Harlan, IA. Darwin worked in Harlan, IA for many years under several different employers. Later, he began working at Coast to Coast in Harlan, IA and retired in 1998. He also took a locksmith course and enjoyed that as much as any other work he had performed.

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed keeping busy with handywork on the side during his working years.
