Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1956 and served 6 months of active duty, and was then in the U. S. Army Reserves for 6 years

Employment: After serving his active duty in the U. S. Army, he began driving truck; he then began farming near Hamlin, IA for about 5 years. The family relocated to Elk Horn, IA., and Lyle went back to driving truck. For a while, he operated his own trucking business, hauling grain and livestock.

Hobbies/Interests: Loved fishing; listening to polka music; gardening; enjoyed driving his classic John Deere tractor in organized tractor rides. Enjoyed tinkering with woodworking; loved spoiling his dogs; the grandkids and great-grandkids loved his malts, and he loved making them.
