DIED January 3, 1883, Roberta Linn, aged, 17 years, 8 months and 29 days.

During our short connection with the News, we have found it our duty to chronicle along with the gay and happy events of life, many sad and sorrowful scenes, which have occurred in our midst; but none gives more pain to record than the sudden misfortune which has just cast a gloom of sadness over our peaceful village and brought sorrow and desolation to the once bright and happy home of our esteemed citizen Rev. Hugh Linn. Within the past four weeks, death has entered the pleasant home circle and ruthlessly taken the four children, Nannie, Bertie, Flora and Effie, whose deaths occurred from typhoid fever whose fatal end, it seems, no medical science could prevent.

They all four, bright intellectual and blooming girls as they were, sleep side-by-side in the Shelby cemetery, Bertie the last one being laid to rest yesterday afternoon. Their old pastor. Rev. J. C. Stephens, of Atlantic, preached the funeral sermon yesterday, of the three youngest. The first one taken was the oldest daughter, Nannie V., whose death occurred on Sunday Dec. 3, 1882. She was born in Maddensville, Huntington county, Penn., on the 20th of January, 1862. Roberta, whose death occurred on Wednesday January 3rd, 1883, was born in Clearfield, Penn., October 4th, 1865. Florence K., whose death occurred on last Saturday, Dec. 30th, was born in Hampsted, Md., August 30th, 1869. Effie Blanche, the youngest, was born in McConnellsburg, March 6th, 1870, and died on Wednesday, Dec. 27th, 1883.
