On last Sunday afternoon about ten o'clock, the little seven-year-old boy of Mr. and Mrs. William Clark, living on the French farm, south and west of Shelby, was bitten on the foot by a rattle snake whilst walking through a slough near the Silver creek, and died from the effects of the bite within a few hours after the accident happened. It is supposed that he was bitten by a rattle snake, as quite a number have been seen and killed in that locality. The boy was seized with spasms and suffered intense agony immediately after the snake had sent its deadly venom into his veins, and was unable to walk. He was carried home, and Dr. De Motte summoned, who arrived too late to administer any antidotes to counteract the effects of the poison. Death relieved the little sufferer of his pain about 3 o'clock. The funeral took place, on Monday afternoon. The services were held at the M. E. church where an impressive sermon was preached by Rev. J. C. Stephens, after which Rev. Jackson made a few feeling remarks. The remains were followed to the Shelby cemetery by a large concourse of friends.
