A. R. Vinton was born in Cornish, N. H. in June, 1819, and of the family of nine children, seven are now living, the brother A. G. Vinton, is a resident of Avoca, two of the sisters are living in Mass., and four in N. H. Mr. Vinton was early apprenticed to the machinist's trade and followed it at Cohoes, N. Y. and at Montreal, Can. He came to Shelby county in '67 bought eighty acres close to Harian, and worked at his trade until some time in '70, since which time by reason of age and infirmities he has worked very little. For some time past his health gradually failed and his brother came to take care of him; he seemed so much better that he returned to Avoca. Early Saturday morning the deceased was about his premises, but about ten o'clock was taken worse, gradually sinking and expiring about twelve o'clock. His old enemy, heart disease, finally triumphed and he rests from his trouble, having reached the age of nearly 61 years. Mr. Vinton was a quiet, unassuming man with many friends, and so far as we know not a single enemy. The remains were placed in the "Hillside" cemetery Sunday forenoon, after appropriate services at the M. E. church, the Rev'd. Franklin officiating.
