Religious affiliation: Baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, IA in March 1937; confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover, IA, on Oct. 1, 1967 where he remained a member.
Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Army on March 8, 1960, and served until April 18, 1962
Marriage: Sheryl Ann Bohlmann; May 13, 1967; location not provided. They later divorced, but remained lifelong friends.
Employment: Worked as a farmhand for numerous neighbors, was hired on as a chauffeur for the owners of Adams Ranch, as well as having worked construction before starting his 37-year career at United Parcel Service. There, he started as a delivery driver, and later accepted the position of tractor-trailer driver. Butch then switched to working nights, driving semi to Sioux Falls, SD. He achieved the Hall of Fame Driver Award in 1993 and retired in 2002. Also, in 1968, Butch purchased an 80-acre farm from his uncle, rented out the land, and raised horses, dogs, had many cats, and even a cow or two. He lived on this farm until moving to Gracewell in 2019.
Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed reading any genre of books, and socializing. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Butch also spent many years breeding, raising, and selling German Shepherds. He also enjoyed traveling.
