Religious affiliation: Baptized at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Portsmouth, IA; since his marriage, he has been a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA

Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1958 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, near San Diego, CA; honorably discharged in 1960; was proud of military service and the expert rifleman medallion he earned for having the best shooting score out of 3 battalions.

Marriage: Joyce Koster; Nov. 26, 1960; St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: Farmer; In addition to farming, Marvin worked at Wigness Machine Shop and Sta-Bilt Construction in Harlan. After receiving a liver transplant in 1999, he partially retired and drove truck and bus for several businesses

Hobbies/Interests: Marvin and Joyce were members of a monthly card club for more than 50 years together with friends and neighbors; enjoyed tractor pulling and traveled throughout various states for years, winning countless trophies; enjoyed car races, beginning at the Shelby County Speedway to NASCAR; looked forward to pheasant hunting and fishing trips with his children and grandchildren; was an excellent mechanic and could fix any vehicle or piece of farm equipment; after he retired, he spent his time at coffee with his friends, driving out to the farm, and, mostly, attending his grandchildren's events and activities
