Education: In her early years, Joyce attended a one-room school, walking to and from school every day with her brothers, Wayne and Ralph. Eventually, they went to "town school." In high school, she played the cello in the orchestra and sang in an acapella choir. She was also active in the Pep Club and belonged to the National Federation of Music Clubs, playing in many piano recitals. After high school, she went on to attend Kansas State in Manhattan, KS.

Hobbies/Interests: While in school, the family was very active in 4-H activities and Joyce began attending meetings at a young age. She took many honors at the State Fair in Hutchinson, KS. As an adult, she enjoyed reading, cross stitch, jig saw puzzles, and crossword puzzles. In their retirement years, she was always ready to travel.
