Education: Graduated from Harlan (IA) Community High School, Class of 1981; she went on to study at the University of Northern IA and earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education

Religious affiliation: A devout Christian, she was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Audubon, IA, from 1998 to 2020, and served as accompanist for the church choir and was on church committees. For the past 3 years, she had been an active remote member of Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church in Apple Valley, MN, serving as an elder, providing her musical talents, and being a member on church committees.

Marriage: Kevin Polson; July 9, 1988; Chariton, Lucas County, IA; they divorced in 2008

Employment: Employed for 33 years in Iowa school districts for Adair, Casey, Chariton, and Harlan. After retiring, she worked for Waspy's Truck Stop in Audubon, IA for 5 years.

Hobbies/Interests: Was a talented singer and piano player; participated in school choir groups and was a devoted member of the religious music group Faith Sound for 5 years; was also an active member of the educational society Delta Kappa Gamma/Beta Zeta for many years. She enjoyed being able to converse and collaborate with fellow educators and was recently the co-president of the society. After retiring, she loved baking sweets and was known for her Kelly's K Bars and her weekly Monday baking songs that she live- streamed on Facebook.
