Military service: Drafted in May 1965 and joined the U. S. Air Force. During his service, he was stationed in Florida and in Osan, Korea. In Korea, Lee's job was to repair the sheet metal on planes that were damaged while flying over Vietnam. On July 3, 2023, in honor of his service, he was presented a quilt by the Quilt of Valor Foundation.

Employment: After his marriage, Lee worked for Harlan Contracting until 1975, and then worked at Stowe Red-E-Mix, Avoca, IA, until 1983; he then began working road construction throughout the Midwest. In 2006, he retired from road construction, bought a bulldozer and became self-employed.

Hobbies/Interests: Was known for his skills in mechanics, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, and was always willing to help anyone needing help with repairs; also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends; loved going to the casino
