Survived by: Wife of 56 years, Vera Raasch of Harlan, IA; stepson, Dan (spouse, Ruth) Heilig of Elk Horn, IA; grandchildren, Amy (spouse, Jim) Adamson of Adel, IA, Chris (spouse, Jessica) Heilig of Flower Mound, TX, Carrie Heilig of Fremont, NE, and Brian (spouse, Nicole) Heilig of Buffalo Grove, IL; great-grandchildren, Molly (spouse, Nick) Howell, Michael Adamson, Cole Heilig, and Reed Heilig; other family members and friends

Education: Attended rural schools in Cass County; graduated from Cumberland (IA) High School, Class of 1946

Religious affiliation: Active member of First United Methodist Church, Harlan, IA; he served on the church board for many years

Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served for 3 years; he was stationed on Guam from Aug. 1947 until May 1949. Honorably discharged.

Marriage: Vera Ruth (nee Buck) Heilig; June 5, 1967; Nashua, IA

Employment: After his military service, he was employed by the Soil Conservation Service for 30 years, retiring in 1984. Wayne then became a valued member of the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home staff, working as a parttime funeral assistant for many years.

Hobbies/Interests: Served on the Harlan Community Library Board; member, Harlan Odd Fellows Lodge from 1963 until it closed; enjoyed traveling, visiting historical sites and museums; was an avid reader and enjoyed golf, fishing, and watching old movies
