His junior and senior years were spent at St. John’s Military School in Salina, KS. After graduation, Randy attended Western State College, Gunderson, CO.

Religious affiliation: Baptized at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Council Bluffs, IA; confirmed at the Congregational Church of Christ, Harlan, IA; he later converted to Catholicism; was an active member of active at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA, playing bass guitar in the praise band.

Hobbies/Interests: Loved music and played bass guitar in 2 bands, The Upbringings and Travelin’ Light, and loved attending concerts; was an avid reader, particularly of Stephen King novels. Time spent with friends and family was significantly important, whether it was camping with his grandchildren, tailgating and cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers, or going to Canada for a fishing trip with his stepfather, sons, and brother.
