She later began nursing school at Iowa Western Community College, Council Bluffs, IA and Southwestern Community College, Creston, IA, while also raising her own family. She graduated from nursing school in 1984 with her LPN and RN degrees. She furthered her education from Bellevue University, Bellevue, NE, with a bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration.
