Funeral services: Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021; United Methodist Church, Irwin, IA; burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Irwin, IA

Survived by: Wife of 67 years, Barbara McIntosh of Harlan, IA; children, Angela (spouse, Chip) Sherman of Kansas City, MO, Joseph (spouse, Dr. Faye Perkins) McIntosh of Teton Village, WY, Mary (spouse, Scott) Oliver of Dearborn, MO, and Bob (spouse, Theresa) McIntosh of Montrose, MO; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, James (spouse, Norma) McIntosh of Savannah, MO; nieces; nephews; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Harold and Mary (nee Gigous) McIntosh

Education: Attended a one-room schoolhouse for 1 year before moving to the city of Tarkio, MO where he attended public schools; he graduated with the Class of 1947. Ray then went to Tarkio College from 1947-1951. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Physical Education. While in college, Ray was a member of Alpha Lambda Sigma, played football, basketball, and track.

Religious affiliation: Active member, United Methodist Church, Irwin, IA

Military service: Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served until 1953. During his time in the service, Ray was stationed in Houston, TX and New York among other bases in the country. He spent much of his time in a laboratory as a technician, testing primarily petroleum products.

Marriage: Barbara Enarson; April 29, 1954; Tarkio, MO

Employment: In the fall of 1954 Ray started his teaching career in Dunbar, NE. After 1 year, he and Barbara moved to Osceola, IA, and 7 years later moved to Irwin, IA where he taught for more than 30 years in the district. Although he could teach nearly any and all subjects, Ray primarily focused on science. Ray's love of sports led him to coach many different teams at both the junior- and senior-high levels.

Hobbies/Interests: Was a Mason and a member of the Eastern Star Association; was an avid card player and gardener; enjoyed his daily walks and coffee conversations with friends; loved poetry, music, and reading
