For several years he served the City of Avoca as head of the Board of Adjustment. He was active in the Avoca Historical Society where he served as President and as treasurer of the Court House Committee. Was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals; followed the AHSTW boys' and girls' varsity basketball games; enjoyed reading mystery novels and books related to American History and U.S. Presidents
