Education: Began attending school in Redline, IA; she later attended school in Elk Horn, IA until the age of 16; she attained her GED in 1954; when she began working at Grand View University in the 1968, she took classes and attained her associate degree in 1974, and then her bachelor’s degree from Drake University in 1975. She was awarded a Master of Library Science from Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO., in 1979.

Religious affiliation: Long-time member, Mitchellville Christian Church, Mitchellville, IA and served as Elder and eventually, Elder Emeritus

Hobbies/Interests: Upon her retirement, Marilyn wrote a book about where she grew up, the Elim Lutheran Children’s Home in Elk Horn, IA; she enjoyed sewing and made many numerous quilts, whether it was for a birth, graduation, or marriage
