Education: Attended country school through Grade 8 and then graduated from Harlan (IA) High School in 1961 while he was in the military, he graduated in 1972 from Troy State University, Fort Rucker Branch, AL with a major in accounting and a minor in business.

Religious affiliation: Charter member of First Baptist Church, Harlan, IA, and served on the finance committee, clerk, and diaconate

Military service: U. S. Army, from 1968 – 1972; stationed at Fort Ruckar, AL; worked with financial records of incoming/outgoing army personnel, with personnel records and warrant officer candidates and typed orders for outgoing army personnel.

Marriage: Marcia Blakely; June 14, 1980; First Baptist Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: After completing his military service, Lyle worked at Harlan (IA) Home Federal Savings and Loan as a Controller. Additionally, he worked for Thummel Tax Service, checking income tax returns for accuracy prepared by them from January to April of each year. He was then employed by Resolution Trust Corporation, helping to prepare government reports. Next, Lyle worked for H & R Block, again reviewing hundreds of income tax returns for accuracy. He also worked for CDS opening mail.

Hobbies/Interests: Active member of Harlan Kiwanis Club and Golden K Club, having served as past president, on board of directors, as past treasurer of the club, and having served on many committees for the club.
