His high school years were spent at Central High School in Omaha, NE before the family moved to Shelby, IA where he graduated from Shelby-Tennant High School, Class of 1969. After graduation he attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO and then transferred to the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
