Education: attended grade school and high school at St. Joseph's Catholic, Earling, IA; he graduated with the Class of 1946

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earling, IA, and remained a lifelong active member, including serving on the parish council

Military service: Drafted into the U. S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea; honorably discharged in 1953

Marriage: Elizabeth “Betty” Croghan; May 8, 1954; St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, Panama, IA

Employment: After his military service was completed, he resumed farming. During the winter months he lived in Omaha, NE, where he attended TV repair school and worked at Sears as a mechanic.

Hobbies/Interests: Was a member of the 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1714 and served as Grand Knight; was also an active member of the American Legion Post #615, performing Honor Guard duties at many ceremonies; enjoyed farming and taking family vacations
