Education: Graduated from Irwin (IA) High School, Class of 1965. He attended Iowa State Universit, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy in 1969. He studied and received a Master of Science in Agronomy, specializing in soils and irrigation, from South Dakota University, Vermillion, SD

Religious affiliation: Member, First United Methodist Church, Boone, IA

Military service: Member of the Denison, IA and Brookings, SD National Guard, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant

Marriage: Diane Gearhart; March 6, 1971; United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, IA

Employment: After graduation, he helped his parents farm; in 1986, Denny accepted a position at Iowa State University as Manager of the ISU Research and Demonstration Farms and retired in 2013

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Habitat for Humanity; member, school board at Manilla, IA, serving as president; became a Master Gardener in 1991; was a John Deere guy and was proud to own his dad’s restored 1970 tractor
