Education: Attended Harlan (IA) public schools; graduated with the Class of 1960; continued his education at the University of Minnesota, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mortuary Science in 1964
Religious affiliation: Lifelong member, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA
Military service: U. S. Army, 1966-68; served at Fort Hood, TX, where he was the NCO in charge of the post mortuary office
Marriage: Beverly Ann Medsker; June 6, 1965; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, Shelby County, IA
Employment: After his military service Jon returned to Harlan in 1969 when he began the Burmeister Funeral Home. He operated the business until March 1992, when he sold the firm to Seth and Kay Johannsen. Following the sale, he continued to conduct services and meet with families until he retired in 2019 when he completed 50 years of providing service to the Harlan area.
Hobbies/Interests: Was a longtime blood donor; repaired clocks; fishing; gardening; woodworking; wine making; restoring his 1930 Ford Model A pickup; attending Harlan Cyclone sporting events
