Employment: Trained as a carpenter with his brother, Harry; was a farmer for the next 33 years. In 1984, he began driving a bus for the Harlan (IA) Community School District and enjoyed getting to know all of the children and their families on his bus route. He particularly enjoyed driving the high school sport teams to out of town games.

Hobbies/Interests: Active member, American Legion Post No. 615; enjoyed playing card games; reading biographies and books on American history; watching a good ball game; building treasures for his family that included tables, desks, shelves, trunks, banks, doll houses, quilt stands, and more, and delivering them to family members all over the country.
