Employment: During school and after graduation, John initially worked as a farm hand and then began helping his brother, Dave, on a milk route. After that, he had many jobs including driving a cream and egg truck for Farmers Coop Creamery in Avoca, IA, working at Pioneer Lumberyard in Ankeny, IA, at Nielson Elevator in Walnut, IA, Avoca Livestock Auction Company in Avoca, IA, and finally working for Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads, from which he retired.
Hobbies/Interests: He enjoyed family trips to Missouri, Louisiana and South Dakota, and loved it when he and his brothers would go on bus trips to Chicago to see the Cubs games; looked forward to going to a Kansas City Chiefs game every once in a while; enjoyed fishing and going deer hunting every year with his brothers and nephews; enjoyed a good Euchre game; doing Find a Word puzzle books; taking daily walks; he especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
