Margaret Theresa Croghan, daughter of Peter and Catherine (Windeshausen) Schmitz, was born September 10, 1929, in Panama, Iowa. She attended St. Mary's School in Panama, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1948.

On December 28, 1948, Marge was united in marriage with Joseph Croghan at St. Mary's Church in Panama. Nine children were born to this union. Joe and Marge farmed near Panama for about one year before moving to the farm Southwest of Manning in 1950, where they operated a dairy farm and raised their family. During that time, they were members of St. Peter's Parish in Defiance, Iowa where Marge taught CCD for many years. In 1991, they retired from farming and moved to their home in Manning, Iowa. They were devout members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning where Marge was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Altar Society, Little Flower Study Club and enjoyed attended daily mass. Marge was employed in the laundry department at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center where she retired in 2003 as a supervisor after 27 years. Joe passed away December 30, 2001, just 2 days after their 53rd Anniversary. In her free time, Marge enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, attending her grandchildren's activities, and playing cards and quilting with her many friends.

In May 2015, Marge suffered a stroke. She was a model of acceptance of God's ways in her life, handling her situation with such grace and dignity. After short stays at the Manning Plaza and CharMac Assisted Living, Marge became a resident of Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carroll, Iowa where she passed away on November 1, 2020, at the age of 91 years.
