Survived by: Daughters, Patricia Ahart (spouse, Daniel) of Denison, IA, and Melanie Ulmer (spouse, Greg) of Harlan, IA; grandchildren, Chris, Allan, and Justin Ulmer, and Devin and Paige Ahart; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Doug Swanson of San Diego, CA; nieces; nephews; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Leslie Swanson and Berniece (nee Larson) Swanson Kahler; step-father, William Kahler; husband, Vernon Gustafson

Education: Attended Kiron (IA) country school and high school and graduated from there with the Class of 1949. While attending high school, she played basketball for the girls’ varsity basketball team. DeArliss then attended National Business Training College in Sioux City, IA for 2 years.

Religious affiliation: Members of the First Baptist Church of Kiron, IA when they lived in Kiron; after moving to Denison, IA, they became members of the Denison Baptist Church until it closed. DeArliss was a member of the ladies groups at both of the Baptist churches. She became a member of the Grace Evangelical Free Church, Denison, IA, after Vernon died.

Marriage: Vernon Gustafson; Oct. 21, 1950; Sac City, IA

Employment: DeArliss retired early from her bookkeeping career at Crawford County Memorial Hospital after being there more than 20 years, and moved to Colorado to be closer to family. She later moved back to Denison, IA, to live at Eventide Lutheran Community.

Hobbies/Interests: Musically inclined, loved to listen to music, play the piano and sing duets; enjoyed reading; attending bible study groups
