Survived by: Wife, Donna Ewert, of Harlan, IA; daughters, Rebecca (spouse, Kevin) Schaefer of Downs, IL and Jennifer Anderson (fiancé, Vaughn Campbell) of Poplar Bluff, MO; sons, Benjamin Ewert of Harlan, IA and RJ (spouse, Kelsey) Ewert of Poplar Bluff, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Ewert; grandchildren, Kamdyn Ewert, Izyk Ewert, Madilynn Ewert and Carson Schaefer; other family members and friends

Education: Graduated from Crystal Lake (IL) High School; he then attended and graduated from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, IA. He was active in the social group sports, college choir, and the madrigal group. He later continued his education at Northern Illinois University obtaining his master’s degree and many other credits.

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed at Crystal Lake United Methodist Church, Crystal Lake, IL; active member of Elmhurst United Methodist Church and then later at Westchester Community Church, a United Church of Christ, Westchester, IL. After moving to Harlan, IA in 2002, he was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Harlan, IA, singing in the choir and serving on many local church, association, state, and national committees and responsibilities.

Employment: After completing his college degree, Roger began teaching in Bensenville, IL, teaching English at Blackhawk Middle School for 36 years and served as Department Chair and administrator. He also served as Reference Librarian at the community library. After moving to Harlaan, IA, he served on the Library Board.
