Religious affiliation: Member, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA; as a younger man, had been active with the Knights of Columbus, Earling, IA

Military service: U. S. Army, Oct. 1950 through Oct. 1952, during the Korean Conflict; he received a Bronze Star for his service

Marriage: Izetta Pauline Fouts; March 2, 1954; St. Patrick’s Church, Dunlap, IA

Employment: Began helping his father farm when he left school; after leaving the military service and his marriage, he worked as a carpenter and then and began farming his own land near Irwin in Shelby County until he retired in 1988.

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sports games; playing cards; golfing; square dancing with Izetta in their younger years; Jerry and Pauline often volunteered to deliver meals for the Harlan Senior Center; the couple spent their winter months in Mission, TX.
