Following his military service, Amond earned his license as a 3rd Grade stationary engineer and worked briefly at Omaha National Bank. After his marriage, he farmed several farms before purchasing a farm near Corley in Shelby County, IA. With his second wife, DeLores, he retired from farming in 1991 and they moved to Harlan. During his retirement, he shuttled cars for Hertz and delivered flowers to Hy-Vee Food Stores for Floral Distributing Inc.
