Religious affiliation: Dona had a strong faith in God and lived accordingly; she converted to Catholicism as a teenager, and received her education from Father E. Leo Ford of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dunlap, IA. While living in Colorado, she was a member of the Lutheran Church there, and then of the Catholic Church again when they moved back to Iowa.

Employment: Dona worked in a variety of occupations throughout her life, beginning at age 10, when she cleaned rooms at a local motel. As she got older, she detasseled corn, worked at the local movie theater, and waited tables at 2 of the local restaurants. At age 18, she moved to Council Bluffs, IA, and was employed by Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company. She and Jack moved to Pueblo, CO in 1956. After the birth of her second child, Dona worked in a local meat packing plant until she discovered she was pregnant with her third child in 1960. In 1967, Dona and Jack returned to Iowa and made their home on the family farm outside of Dunlap. She actively helped farm, milked cows, and took care of the hogs. After her last child went to kindergarten, Dona began working for Ed Barnum at the Woodbine Produce, Woodbine, IA, as an egg grader and bookkeeper. Following the company’s closing, Dona worked for Doris Moore at Moore Brothers’ Supermarket for several years.
Hobbies/Interests: Member of the Lazy H Square Dance Club and of the Woodbine Saddle Club; was a Girl Scout Leader, a Boy Scout Leader, and 4-H Leader. She was an excellent cook and baker; loved sewing and crocheting; loved attending plays, musicals, and the Omaha Symphony, and enjoyed traveling with Jack.
